IBA, an aviation market intelligence and consultancy company, has published its monthly Aviation Industry Barometer for June 2022, which shows that Boeing 737 MAX deliveries have reached a record high since 2018 as international travel grows. Intelligence from IBA’s Insight IQ platform indicates that the recovery of monthly global passenger flights grew by 2% in June 2022 compared to May 2022, with flight capacity now at 80% relative to pre-pandemic levels.

The barometer for June 2022 also indicates that:

• Overall, there were approximately 2.41 million commercial passenger flights in June 2022 compared to 2.31 million in May 2022, with 1.83 million in June 2021.

• There were 121 commercial aircraft deliveries in June 2022, representing a month-on-month increase of +37% compared to May 2022, and a year-on-year variance of -8% compared to June 2021.

• Deliveries in the narrowbody category were led by the A320neo family, while the A350 led deliveries in the widebody segment. Boeing 737 MAX deliveries surpassed 40 per month for the first time since 2018, while COMAC delivered its first two ARJs this year in June.

• Freighter deliveries remained exclusive to Boeing, with six aircraft delivered in June: three 777F and three 767-300F aircraft to a mixture of operators.

• Asia Pacific flight capacity continues to lag behind, although the region is starting to show healthy signals with positive year-on-year growth as Covid-19 restrictions relax further.

• Latin America is leading global recovery, surpassing pre-pandemic capacity levels since May this year.

• International travel grew by 6% month-on-month for June 2022.
