One AirFi customer is European LCC, easyJet. easyJet passengers can now use their own mobile phones, tablet or laptops to connect to the local wi-fi network and access entertainment, info and retail options

European low-cost airline, easyJet, has completed the rollout of portable streaming technology on its EU and Swiss fleets, marking the successful fleet-wide deployment. The airline first trialled systems from inflight technology provider, AirFi, in October 2022, and following positive results, has now fitted them on all its 327 aircraft.

The AirFi units fit inside the overhead luggage bins

The AirFi streaming modules are compact enough to fit in an overhead luggage bin, giving  passengers access to a customised wireless engagement portal from which they can select games, journey-specific content and airline information, or browse inflight retail offerings. To access the content, passengers simply use their own mobile phones, tablet or laptops to connect to the local wi-fi network created onboard by the AirFi hardware. Access to the content is free, and there is no requirement for passengers to download an app before the flight or share personal information to get connected.

Commenting on the fleet-wide deployment, easyJet’s director of inflight retail, Simon Cox, commented:  “We are really pleased that, following a phased roll out, we have now completed the programme of installing the technology across all our aircraft, which has enabled us to introduce digital solutions for the convenience and benefit of all our customers. AirFi has been able to meet our ambitious timelines for this project and has integrated well with our existing partners.”
